CARE has been working in India for over 2 years, focusing on alleviating poverty and social exclusion. We do this through well-planned and comprehensive programmes in health, education, livelihoods and disaster preparedness and response. We also focus on generating and sharing knowledge with diverse stakeholders to influence sustainable impact at scale. Our overall goal is the empowerment of women and girls from poor and marginalised communities, leading to improvement in their lives and livelihoods.
Delivering healthcare to over a billion people is a very complex challenge. CARE India works in close collaboration with State and Central Government and other partner organisations to secure accessible and quality maternal and child healthcare among marginalised communities. We work towards identifying the root causes of healthcare challenges, provide innovative solutions, and help implement secure and quality healthcare services in India. We promote essential newborn care and immunisation, reduce malnutrition, prevent infant and maternal deaths and protect those affected by Tuberculosis (TB). CARE India works closely with its partners to achieve good healthcare for everyone.
CARE India's Girl Education Programme (GEP) focuses on improving the conditions by which girls, especially those in the marginalized communities can access quality education. Education is an important tool that enables women and girls to participate in decisions that affect their lives and in improving their social status. GEP provides technical support while working through the formal school systems as well as through the integrated programs of CARE India. Following the enactment of the Right to Education Act by the Government, CARE India has been actively engaged in several forums and consortiums along with other international agencies and the larger civil society to support the implementation of the Act in its true spirit. GEP is committed towards enabling effective implementation of education provisions and policies for rights, entitlements and empowerment of girls from most marginalized sections of the society in safe and secure, inclusive and gender responsive environments.
CARE India believes in helping individuals live a life of dignity. To achieve this, our livelihood programmes focus on generating sustainable livelihoods. This is done through capacity building, fostering community links and promoting small businesses. CARE India puts special focus on entrepreneurial ventures, which are owned by women. Through its livelihood programmes, CARE India promotes microfinance, Self Help Groups, capacity building and small businesses. It also fosters linkages between community collectives and financial institutions. CARE also focuses on improving the literacy, numeracy and critical thinking skills to promote sustainable livelihoods.
